Statement of Faith

At Berean Bible Church we believe:

  1. That the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired of God, and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:21). In the presentation of the Word, it is to be "rightly divided" according to dispensational principle as set forth in 2 Timothy 2:15, ASV, "Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth."
  2. In ONE GOD, creator and sustainer of the universe, existing eternally in three persons, FATHER, SON, and HOLY SPIRIT. (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Timothy 2:5; Ephesians 4:4-6; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Romans 9:5)
  3. In the eternal deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son; that He was co-existent with the Father; that He is before all things and that by Him all things consist. He was begotten by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true Man. (Luke 1:35; Philippians 2:6-9; Romans 1:3,4; Matthew 1:23; John 20:28; Hebrews 1:8)
  4. The Holy Spirit, a Person co-equal with the Father and the Son, convicts the world of sin, regenerates, baptizes into the Body of Christ, seals, indwells, enlightens, and empowers the believer. (Titus 3:5; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:30; 1 Corinthians 6:19; 1 Corinthians 2:11-12; Ephesians 3:16)
  5. All men by nature are dead in trespasses and sins, and are, therefore, totally unable of themselves to do anything pleasing to God. (Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 8:7-8; Romans 1:13-32)
  6. God justifies ungodly sinners by His grace, upon the ground of the shed blood of Christ, through the means of faith. This complete salvation is bestowed as the free gift of God apart from man's works. (Romans 3:24-28; Romans 5:1-9; Ephesians 2:8-9)
  7. All believers are eternally saved through Christ, having been chosen in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4-14), to an eternal purpose and glory. (Romans 8:28-30)
  8. In this present dispensation of the grace of God, there is only one church, which is called the Body of Christ. It is composed of all the saved and has its historical beginning with the raising up of the Apostle Paul. (1 Corinthians 12:13,27; Colosians 1:18, 24-25; Ephesians 3:1-11; Ephesians 4:12; Ephesians 1:22-23; Romans 11:11)
  9. Every member of the Body of Christ has been given a gift, or gifts, with which to serve the Lord in ministry (Ephesians 4:7-11; Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31). God gave certain men to the Body of Christ for the equipping of the saints to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12-13). However, the official offices of Apostle (involving the twelve plus Paul, (Matthew 10:2-5; Acts 2:14; Acts 6:2; Galatians 1:1), and Prophet (i.e. one who foretells the future), have passed away. The specialized gifts of healing through laying on of hands, the working of miracles through men, speaking in tongues, and revelations, were withdrawn with (1) setting aside of Israel and the Kingdom program, and (2) establishment of the Church the Body of Christ, and (3) completion of the sacred canon of Scriptures. (1 Thessalonians 2:16; Romans 11:11-36; 2 Timothy 4:20; Philippians 2:25-26; 1 Timothy 5:23 and 1 Corinthians 13:8-10)
  10. By reason of Christ's victory over sin and the indwelling Spirit, all of the saved may and should experience deliverance from the power of sin by obedience to Romans 6:11, but we deny that man's sinful nature is eradicated during this life. (Romans 6:6-14; Galatians 5:16-25)
  11. The Lord's Table, as revealed through the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, is for members of the Body of Christ to observe "Until He Comes". (1 Corinthians 10:16-21)
  12. All saved persons have been baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit in one divine baptism. This one baptism takes place at the time of quickening by the Holy Spirit and by it every member of the Body of Christ is identified with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. Therefore, in this dispensation, we believe that there is no Scriptural basis for the practice of water baptism either for salvation or for membership in the local church. (Ephesians 4:5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; 1 Corinthians 1:12-17; and Colossians 2:9-13)
  13. In the bodily resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, that after His sacrificial and vicarious death for the sin of the world on the cross of Calvary, He showed Himself alive by many infallible proofs; that He ascended into heaven as the Man Christ Jesus, the one Mediator between God and man; that now exalted at God's right hand He represents the believer in God's presence as Advocate, High Priest and Intercessor. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
  14. In the pre-tribulation rapture of both the living and the dead of the Body Church into the air (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Corinthians 15:15-53), and His second coming to earth to set up His millenial Kingdom, over which He will reign (Zechariah 14:4-9; Acts 1:10-11; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 20:4-6). The resurrection of the other dead will occur after the Tribulation. (Revelation 20:4-6)
  15. The destiny of the believer of this dispensation is a conscious state of eternal bliss in the presence of the Lord, occupying glorified spiritual resurrected bodies like unto Christ's own glorious body. (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17; 1 Corinthians 15:20, 42-44, 52-54; Philippians 3:20-21)
  16. The destiny of the unbeliever is a conscious state of suffering in eternal perdition. (Revelation 14:11; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9)
  17. Satan is a living, personal, active devil. (2 Corinthians 2:11; Ephesians 2:2; 1 Peter 5:8,9; Revelation 12:9; Revelation 20:10)
  18. The mission and commission of the Church, which is His Body, is to proclaim the message of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:14-21) and endeavor to make all men see what is the dispensation of the Mystery (Ephesians 3:8,9). In this we should strive to reach those in the regions beyond where Christ is not yet named. (Romans 15:20; 2 Corinthians 10:16)
