Hold Fast

Sep 21, 2025    John Spooner

The most devastating and embarrassing PE class activity was the dreaded rope climb. Do any of you remember that? Early on I didn't have the grip strength, and it was humiliating to keep sliding down. So, I got a spring-loaded grip squeezer- and worked out my grip. Eventually, I could make it, but it was dedication to work and not be embarrassed- all about the grip. In our passage Paul challenges young Timothy, facing all kinds of social and spiritual persecutions, to 'hold fast', the strongest grip you can get on the rope of doctrine. His challenge for all of us is to recommit ourselves to the purity and truth of the gospel message. The need for 'guarding' it hasn't changed since those days and even more so now.
